Blue Shield is expanding its Exclusive Provider Organization plan for CalPERS members in 2024.
The Blue Shield EPO plan is expanding into new rural counties:
  • Del Norte in Northern California
  • San Benito in Central California
Away From Home Care
New to Access+ HMO, Blue Shield EPO, and Trio HMO for 2024
The Away From Home Care program provides convenient healthcare coverage while you are temporarily residing in the service area of a participating (host) for at least 90 consecutive days. The program addresses your healthcare needs if you have one of the following situations:
  • A child attending school outside of California.
  • Family members living in different service areas outside of California.
  • A long-term work assignment outside of California or are a retiree with a dual residence.

    Note: Program eligibility is contingent upon the subscriber maintaining a permanent address in California.
    Important: Always carry your current member ID card.

While premium increases are being seen across the healthcare industry – and this year’s CalPERS rates are no exception – Blue Shield’s increases are lower than the statewide averages for each plan type. In 2024, premiums will increase 5.9% for Access+ and 6.5% for Trio HMO. The Medicare PPO premium will increase by 8.5%.

Trio HMO continues to be among the most affordable plans offered to CalPERS members while providing additional quality services such as:
  • 24/7 virtual consults.
  • Virtual medical and behavioral health appointments at no additional cost.
  • Pharmacy delivery at no additional cost.
