Point of service (POS) plans include access to both the HMO and PPO networks
To search for a primary care physician (PCP), click on the HMO network (Level I) above. Then, select "Primary Care Physician." You may need your selected PCP’s ID number when you enroll in the plan for the first time. To find this number, click on your doctor’s name and then select View details under "Primary Care Physician ID."
With the PPO network (Level II), you can see any doctor in Blue Shield's PPO network for most covered services. Keep in mind that if you seek care from an out-of-network provider, you will pay more.
To search for a mental health provider: (1) Under Choose your Benefit Plan, select BSC MHSA, (2) Under Choose a Provider List, select either Non-Medicare Provider or Non-Medicare Facility.
To search for a provider, under Specialty, select acupuncture or chiropractic.
What is an urgent care center?
Staffed with qualified professionals, urgent care centers are ideal for non-emergency care when your doctor is not available. They can be faster and less expensive than the ER for non-emergencies.
As a POS plan member, you can access urgent care through the HMO network (Level I) or PPO network (Level II). To save money, whenever possible, make sure any urgent care services you receive are covered under your HMO network (Level I) benefits.

- Call your PCP or your assigned medical group/IPA first for instructions before going to an urgent care center.
- Make sure the urgent care center you go to is affiliated with your PCP's medical group/IPA. (Ask your PCP for the name of an affiliated urgent care center near you.)
How do I get care across the U.S. and abroad?
Care within the U.S.
You and your covered family members have access to care across the U.S. through the BlueCard® Program.
If you use your HMO network (Level I) benefits, you have access to BlueCard providers only for urgent or emergency medical care or authorized medical follow-up care. You can use your PPO network (Level II) benefits to access care through BlueCard providers for all covered services.
Please note: You are not required to access a BlueCard provider for care. However, using the BlueCard Program can be more cost-effective. It may also eliminate the need for you to pay for the services at the time they are provided, and to submit a claim for reimbursement.
