Lite and Classic Point of Service (POS) plans
Pharmacy benefits are an important part of your CAPE/Blue Shield health plan. Understanding your benefits can help you save money. Select Pharmacy benefits to learn more.
Plan highlights
A POS plan combines the predictable out-of-pocket costs of an HMO plan with the greater flexibility of a PPO plan. You have the freedom to choose an HMO, PPO, or out-of-network provider each time you access care.
When you enroll in the POS plan for the first time, you must choose a primary care physician (PCP) for yourself and your covered dependents. Each member of your family can choose a different physician and medical group/Independent Practice Association (IPA). For information on how to find a doctor, see the "Find a provider" section below.

Your mental health and substance use disorder care benefits
The POS plan's mental health and substance use disorder care benefits include inpatient and outpatient care for depression and other mental illnesses and alcohol/substance use disorder.
If you choose to access care using your Level I (HMO) or Level II (PPO) benefits, then you will only have access to Blue Shield’s mental health service administrator (MHSA) provider network. You will also pay less and receive higher benefit coverage than if you use your Level III (out-of-network) benefits by going to an out-of-network provider.
To find a doctor in the MHSA provider network, visit MHSA.
