Blue Shield will cover most diagnostic and screening COVID-19 tests ― including over-the-counter at-home tests ― at no out-of-pocket cost to you.
This means you do not need to pay out-of-pocket costs (copay, coinsurance, or deductible) for diagnostic and screening COVID-19 tests. This will last as long as state and federal mandates for testing coverage are in place:

Trio HMO plan
Our Trio HMO plan:
  • Is typically more affordable than other plans
  • Has no deductible – just fixed copays for most covered services like doctor visits, urgent care, and emergency care
  • Features a select network of local providers who closely coordinate your care
  • Offers Shield Concierge personalized service to help you with everything from understanding benefits to scheduling doctor's appointments

To enroll in the Trio HMO plan, you and your eligible dependents must enroll in the same plan. You must also live or work within the Trio HMO service area. For a listing of Trio HMO service areas, visit blueshieldca.com/triocheck.

When you enroll in the Trio HMO plan for the first time, you must choose a PCP for yourself and your covered dependents. This PCP will coordinate your care and refer you to specialists and hospitals within their medical group/Independent Practice Association (IPA). Each member of your family can choose a different physician and medical group/IPA.
Access+ HMO plan
With the Access+ HMO® plan, you:
  • Have no deductible – just fixed copayments for most services like doctor visits, urgent care, and emergency care
  • Have access to one of the largest provider networks in California, with more than 13,000 primary care physicians (PCPs), 350 hospitals, and 48,000 specialists
  • Choose a PCP who will coordinate your care and refer you to specialists and hospitals within their medical group/Independent Practice Association (IPA)

When you enroll in the Access+ HMO plan for the first time, you must choose a PCP for yourself and your covered dependents. Each member of your family can choose a different physician and medical group/IPA.
PPO Savings plan
The PPO Savings plan allows you to:
  • See any doctor you choose for most services, although you will usually pay less for services provided by PPO Network providers
  • Self-refer to specialists
  • Pay a copayment or coinsurance for most services after you meet the plan’s deductible

Prescription drug benefits are an important part of your Blue Shield health plan. Understanding your pharmacy benefits can help you save money.

You may save if your medication is a preferred prescription drug. Also, if you take stabilized doses of covered medications for chronic conditions such as diabetes, you can have a 90-day supply delivered through our mail service pharmacy. Shipping is free, and you may save on your copay.

Headspace and Ginger are now available through Wellvolution®
  • Headspace offers over 500 guided meditations to help with anxiety, sleep, and more. Plus, you can access yoga workouts, wind-down exercises, and other features.

  • Ginger offers on-demand, confidential mental health support day or night through coaching and self-guided activities. You can also get video therapy and psychiatry sessions within days.*

Maternity care that fits into your life
Starting on January 1, 2022, Blue Shield of California members can access Maven, a program designed to give you and your partner digital and virtual support for your pregnancy and postpartum needs – at no extra cost. You can also get support if you have experienced a pregnancy loss.
